France set to announce F1 return

The French prime minister is set to hold a press conference tomorrow afternoon where he is due to officially announce the return of the French GrandPrix to the 2013 Formula One calendar. It is expected that the Paula Ricard circuit will host the event. The circuit lasted hosted the French GrandPrix in 1990.

France has not been on the F1 calendar since Magney Cours was dropped from the calendar in 2008 as it was too expensive.

I believe that it's about time that France is back on the F1 calendar because firstly Renault are French and they play a key role in the sport as they supply engine's to RedBull, Williams, Lotus and the Cateham F1 team's so that is a third of the F1 grid. French oil company Total are also involved in the sport as a sponsor and supplier to both RedBull Racing and the Lotus F1 team.

For the time in a number of season's there are three French driver's in F1 with Romain Grosjean at Lotus, Charles Pic at Marussia and Jean Eric Vergne at Toro Rosso.

France is also the home of the FIA the world motorsport governing body. So France is certainly a key market for the sport.

The issue that may cause a problem is the fact that we have 20 race's on the calendar this year and with the two spanish circuit's alternating from next season and the addition of New Jersey to the calendar for next year the sport will have to find room for the race.
