Andretti Autosport win as Franchitti's title chances fade

Andretti Autosport's Ryan Hunter Reay won tonight's rain delayed race at the Milwaukee Mile oval circuit taking his first race win of the 2012 season. It was a very disappointing race for pole sitter Dario Franchitti and the Target team as the Scot crashed out of the race following the slightest contact with Penske's Ryan Briscoe.

The only consolation for Dario and Team Target was the fact that championship leader Will Power had a very poor race. Dario's team mate Scott Dixon endured a race to forget too after a grid penalty left him starting the race from 21st place. He managed to make his way up to 5th but was handed a drive threw penalty for an apparent jump start following a yellow flag period restart.

Having watched the race myself, there was absolutely no way Scott should have beend handed a penalty, it was a very harsh decision. Scott eventually finished just outside the top ten.

Meanwhile it was a great day for Tony Kanaan and KVRacing Technology as the Brazilian finished the race in second. His team mate and former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello had a great day and finished
the race in 10th place, a fantastic result for a driver who has very little oval racing experience. However his performance in Indianapolis and in Milwaukee this week in my opinion the F1 veteran is a shoe in to win IndyCar's coveted Rookie of the Year Title.

So I believe it is going to be a huge ask for Dario to make it 4 drivers championships in 4 years. However I fully expect him to come back and finish the season strongly after a tough start. However he has a huge mountain to climb to close the 67 point gap seperating him from series leader Will Power.
