Hamilton decision due tomorrow

It has been reported today that Lewis Hamilton's Formula One future will be announced tomorrow, it is now expected that the British driver will confirm that he will be staying at McLaren in 2013. The news comes as Ross Brawn refused to confirm or deny that his Mercedes team are interested in Hamilton's services.

The Mercedes team boss also said that discussions with Michael Schumacher over his future are on going and that any announcement regrading the German won't be made until some time in October, with the news that Hamilton could confirm his plans tomorrow the changes of him leaving McLaren appear to have disappeared.

However in my opinion this could all be a smoke screen. If Hamilton makes an announcement he could simply be confirming that he won't be driving for McLaren next season and that wouldn't necessarily mean that he would be moving to Mercedes. The Lotus team have yet to announce their line-up for next season however I believe that Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean will be staying at the team in 2013.

So by this time tomorrow we may finally after months of speculation discover what is happening with Hamilton. We shall see what happens. In any case, I believe it would be wrong for Hamilton to tie himself to McLaren as it is very rare in this era of Formula One for a driver to stay at one team for their entire career.

For example, in 2007 Fernando Alonso shocked everyone in the F1 world by signing for McLaren for 2007 season having just won his second driver's title with the then Renault team, He spent a year with McLaren, ironically as Hamilton's team-mate (We all know how that played out) before returning to Renault in 2008 and 2009 before heading to Ferrari. So it is certainly not uncommon for a driver to leave a team only to return after a year or too. So that is always an option for Hamilton. But we shall see what news tomorrow brings.
