Ferrari set to confirm Massa

So with the confirmation today that Sergio Perez will replace the Mercedes bound Lewis Hamiton at McLaren. Ferrari have no realistic options. Kimi Raikkonen is set to stay at Lotus and why would he leave a team where he has established himself and has had an incredible return to Formula One.

Heikki Kovalainen has apparently held talks with Ferrari about replacing Felipe Massa. However I believe that he could replace Perez at Sauber and possibly Alexander Rossi could replace him at Caterham which would be a fantastic marketing prospect for Caterham with two races scheduled for the US next season.

So it would appear that Felipe Massa has received a reprieve from Ferrari. The Brazilian driver has had a terrible season by his standards and so far this season he has only scored 51 points compared to his team mate who is leading the championship with 194 points.

I believe that Ferrari will be kicking themselves by not signing Perez while they had the chance. Granted a Formula One driver contract is not worth the paper it;'s written on however a McLaren contract is a lot more difficult to get out of.

News Just In:

According to Formula One website GPupdate.net former world champion Niki Lauda is set to join the Mercedes Board of Directors as a Non Executive Director. A position he has previously held with Ferrari and the former Jaguar Racing team. This story is yet to be confirmed so we will have to wait and see what happens.

Lauda currently heads up German F1 coverage on RTL so we shall watch this space.
