the Lotus F1 team were said to be extremely angered today by the news that information that a group of team members had gathered in Bahrain last week about the safety of the race was leaked to the media. It has been reported that the information that the team gathered was attributed to the FIA, however this is completely untrue as Lotus travelled to the Gulf state on behalf of the teams.
The document was then due to be passed on to all the other team's so that they could form their own opinions on the current situation in Bahrain.
In a separate development, the Formula One Team's Association (FOTA) has said that the final decision on whether the Bahrain GrandPrix goes ahead rests firmly with the FIA as the team's race in the FIA Formula One World Championship.
It has been revealed that if the team's were to boycott the race they would face severe financial sanctions from Bernie Ecclestone as the team's are obliged to race in all the races on the calendar. I believe that the team's should be allowed to decide themselves if they want to travel to the race as they don't want to send their employee's to the Gulf state if their safety cannot be guarnteed.
In a statement a number of week's ago Jean Todt, president of the FIA said that the race will go ahead and that they have no fears what so ever regarding the safety of the Bahrain GrandPrix. Everyday the situation in Bahrain change's so we shall see what happens.
The team's are set to hold a meeting about the Bahrain GrandPrix in China this weekend.
